5 things to look out for at #SMRnov19

Next event | | 3 min read

We’re just a few hours away from opening the doors to November 2019’s edition of Silicon Milkroundabout. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes for the last few months to make this our biggest and best event yet. We’ve picked out some highlights from what’s sure to be a great weekend ahead. Read on for 5 things to look out for at #SMRnov19…

Speaker’s Corner

Like previous events, we’re opening proceedings at 12:00pm with a discussion between some of the great minds behind the very teams that will be looking for new members across the weekend.

Don’t miss Sofar Sounds, Zego & Beam on Saturday, and JustGiving, BBC, Gousto & Greyparrot on Sunday. Our friends from Fitch will be supplying coldbrew during the talks, to get you ready for the doors to main event opening at 1:00pm.

But the insightful chat doesn’t end there! At 4:00pm we’ll be heading back to the stage for our ‘Speaker’s Corner’ talks. On Saturday, Lush will talk us through the development of the Lush Lens, and their mission supporting tech for good. Stack Overflow will then join us on Sunday for a deep-dive into the results of their 2019 Developer Survey.

Sassy Cocktail Hour

Our famous free bar is back and stocked with event more delicious soft drinks, beers & cocktails than ever before. The craft beer aficionados amongst you will be delighted to hear we have Wild Beer and Magic Rock on board, alongside the return of the crisp, alpine, thirst-quenching taste of Austria that is Stiegl lager.

For those that prefer something slightly stronger to reward you after a successful day of meeting  some top tech teams, we’ll have G&Ts served with exquisite Sipsmith Gin.

If you’re near the bar at 4:30pm (both days) then you’re even for a special treat! The team from Sassy Cider will be popping up their cocktail bar for one hour only to serve up some exclusive mixes!

A more environmentally-friendly event

Earlier this month we detailed the journey we’ve taken as we work to reduce the environmental footprint of Silicon Milkroundabout. You can read the full piece here. As part of our efforts to reduce the use of the plastic at the event, we’re asking attendees to bring their own bottles to refill at our water stations.

Your bottle could be your ticket to a £50 Amazon voucher! To enter our competition, take a picture of your bottle at the event and tag us on Twitter (@milkroundabout) or Instagram (@siliconmilkroundabout) using #SMRnov19 #water.

We’ll choose our favourite after the event!

So much extra fun!

Take a break from chatting and stop by room T2 for a session at the arcade or to check out some of the work of our partners. Visiting artists Lucy Grainge and Abnormal Design will be exhibiting and discussing their work.

Lucy Grainge will also be hosting workshops, free and open to all attendees and their children. Get stuck into some Marbling at 2:00pm on Saturday, or Poster Making at 4:30pm on Sunday.

We’re also hosting Buzzbar, the first-ever walk-in, pay-by-the-hour, collaborative marketing service. Stop by their booth tor free marketing expertise and the chance to win an hour of free time on any of their services—from social media and marketing strategy to photography and graphic design. They’ll be joined by the team from Startups Magazine: the magazine that champions entrepreneurial heroes disrupting industries, and the creators challenging norms and breaking boundaries. Pick up a free copy of the mag and meet their team.

At the Choose Love Cafe we’re hosting an exhibition of 10 artists’ interpretations of the charity’s logo. The prints are kindly presented in partnership in Print Club London, and are for sale with all proceeds going to the charity and their amazing work supporting refugees.

Food will be served by Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, a pop-up restaurant which can legitimately claim the title of the best falafel in London. £1 from every food purchase will go straight to Choose Love.
